What to Take On Your Journey to the Middle East

Comment First

The sun is strong in the Middle East. Here's what we think you should bring.

If you plan on traveling to or through the Middle East, you need to be prepared, which means knowing ahead of time what you need to take on your journey, and packing well enough in advance that nothing important will be left behind. All of the following things should be packed and brought along during your journey to the Middle East.

Hats and Covering –

Shade is always at a premium in the Middle East, considering the hot sun. You should make sure to have a hat with a wide brim. If you are a female, you should definitely have some kind of head covering if you intend to enter any old church or mosque while traveling through many Middle Eastern countries.

Sun Block –

Sun burn and heat stroke are absolutely essential concerns when traveling to the Middle East, so plan ahead by bringing sun block and other tools for keeping your skin safe and protected when traveling.

Sunglasses –

You are going to need a good pair of sunglasses, especially with an ultra high UV rating to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun.

Canteen / Water Holder –

In the Middle East you are going to find a lot of desert, and water is going to be scarce at time so make sure to plan ahead by packing a canteen or water bottle holder because staying hydrated is absolutely critical for your comfort, health and well being.

Water Fan –

Walmart, Target and other similar stores have these handy little battery operated fans attached to water bottles. Pick a couple up and keep them with you to cool down and mist your face when you are feeling overwhelmed by the heat during your travels.

Guidebooks –

Roaming and exploring with wild abandon is fun, but when traveling to foreign countries, it is wise to bring guidebooks along, otherwise you may get lost, or even worse, miss some of the best stuff. Two of the best guidebooks to buy are the Rough Guide guidebooks and the Lonely Planet guidebooks.

Camera –

Bring a camera! There is a lot that you can do and see here, but also there are some things to consider. For example, you may need high speed film to capture certain things. Most people simply use ASA 800 film and then they are capable of pushing it to 1600 when they need to.

Comfortable Shoes –

Comfortable walking shoes is one of the most important things that you can bring with you on your trip to the Middle East. Most travelers are going to do quite a bit of walking, so your shoes should be both comfortable and practical. Your walking shoes should be able to breathe, and they should be lightweight like nylon or something similar. Tennis shoes or sporting shoes are generally an excellent choice for walking shoes that you bring with you to the Middle East.

Sewing Kit –

Don’t lose a button or rip a seam on your travels! But if you do, be prepared. Bring a travel sewing kit to mend your clothing as you go. Otherwise you may end up with a much smaller wardrobe by the end of your travels.
